New power outages in Sumy and Kharkiv regions due to Russian attacks
As of the morning of April 1, 2026, Ukraine’s power grid has recorded an increase in electricity consumption amid renewed shelling of critical infrastructure.
According to the national company Ukrenergo, new power outages occurred in the Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions as a result of enemy attacks.
The most critical situation is currently observed in the Sumy region. Since last night, the region has been under a massive drone attack, with the power grid specifically targeted.
Due to significant damage to equipment, a large number of settlements have been left without power, and “power engineers cannot begin repair work due to the constant threat of further strikes.”
Despite serious damage to infrastructure, electricity consumption in the country continues to rise. At 9:30 a.m., consumption figures were 1.2% higher than yesterday’s.
Experts attribute this trend to deteriorating weather conditions across Ukraine.
“The reason is cloudy weather across all regions of Ukraine. This leads to low efficiency of residential solar power plants and a corresponding increase in energy consumption from the main grid,” Ukrenergo emphasized.
Due to the lack of their own generation, households are forced to draw more power from the centralized grid.
To balance the power grid and avoid emergencies, the dispatch center has implemented temporary restrictions.
Today, April 1, from “12:00 to 17:00,” consumption restrictions will apply to industrial facilities in all regions of the country without exception.
Energy officials are once again calling on citizens to show solidarity and use resources wisely.
“All regions of Ukraine need to conserve energy around the clock. Please limit the use of high-power electrical appliances until 10:00 PM and do not turn on several such appliances at the same time,” the agency’s statement reads.
As a reminder, Ukraine does not plan to impose power restrictions on Tuesday, March 31.
Ukrenergoresponded to questions about whether there would be power outages on March 25.
Ukrenergo assessed the impact of the cancellation of preferential gas tariffs for power plants.
No electricity consumption restrictions are planned in Ukraine on Thursday, March 26.
