A fraudulent scheme involving the sale of non-existent drones and vehicles to the military was uncovered in the Sumy region
In the Sumy region, law enforcement officials have uncovered a group of individuals who defrauded citizens by selling non-existent quadcopters and vehicles, allegedly intended for military use.
This was reported by the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, a 41-year-old resident of the region organized the scheme and recruited accomplices. He coordinated the group’s activities and communicated with customers. One of the participants posted online ads for the sale of fictitious goods, while another opened bank accounts and handled their closure in case of complaints.
The organizer immediately converted the funds received from the victims into cryptocurrency and transferred them to e-wallets.
Over the course of nine months, the suspects defrauded at least six people, including two military personnel. One of them transferred money for a purported DJI Mavic quadcopter, while the other paid a deposit for the transportation of a non-existent car and the processing of documents.
The total amount of damages exceeds 591,000 hryvnias.
On March 18, the two suspects were notified of their status as suspects in the fraud case. The issue of imposing preventive measures on them is currently being decided, and the case materials regarding the third suspect have been separated into a separate proceeding.
Additionally, the court ordered the seizure of over 48 million hryvnias from an official at the environmental inspection agency.
