Vitaliy Tsipkaylo, the rector of St. Michael’s Church in the village of Stavriv, Rivne Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), was mobilized while in Volyn. The priest is currently serving in a military unit.

The Volyn Regional Military Enlistment and Recruitment Center explained that the man did not have a formal deferment or exemption from mobilization. According to representatives of the enlistment center, after being drafted, he was assigned to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As Ulyana Kravchuk, spokesperson for the Volyn Regional Military Recruitment Center and Service, explained, on July 2, at a checkpoint near the village of Derno in the Lutsk district, police stopped a car whose 43-year-old driver was subject to conscription during the mobilization.

During an inspection of his military registration documents, it was discovered that the driver was Archpriest Vitalii Tsipkaylo, who was not eligible for a deferment or exemption.

“He was informed of the need to report to the Territorial Recruitment Center to undergo a military medical examination and possibly begin military service. The citizen agreed and arrived at the Territorial Recruitment Center in his own car. After undergoing the medical examination, he was deemed fit for service and drafted into one of the military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” reported Ulyana Kravchuk.

Vitaliy Tsipkaylo was born on January 9, 1983. In 2007, he graduated from the Volyn Theological Seminary. He was ordained a priest on June 20, 2005, and since November 2009 has served as rector of St. Michael’s Church in the village of Stavriv, Rivne Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The mobilization of the priest was reported on Wednesday, July 8, on the Facebook page of the Rivne Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). The post noted that Vitaliy Tsipkaylo was detained on July 2 in the Volyn region and called on the faithful to pray for him.
