In Transcarpathia, the head of a social welfare fund is suspected of embezzlement
The acting head of the Transcarpathian branch of the Social Protection Fund for Persons with Disabilities is suspected of embezzling budget funds allocated for prosthetics and rehabilitation for people with disabilities, including wounded military personnel.
According to the investigation, those involved in the scheme persuaded people to sign documents in advance certifying the alleged receipt of prosthetics and other rehabilitation aids. Afterward, the delivery of the devices was delayed or never took place at all, even though the state had already transferred the funds to the supplier.
Among the victims are civilians with disabilities and Ukrainian soldiers who lost limbs as a result of injuries sustained on the front lines.
Law enforcement has so far determined the losses to be nearly 600,000 hryvnias. The suspects face up to eight years in prison.
