In Zaporizhzhia, a stepfather is set to stand trial for prolonged abuse of his stepdaughter
In Zaporizhzhia, a case involving a 51-year-old man was referred to court on May 27. Juvenile prosecutors filed an indictment alleging acts of violence against a child, which, according to the investigation, had been ongoing for a long time.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the investigation, he raped a minor for over four years, with the abuse occurring 1-2 times a week, particularly after the family evacuated to one of the region’s settlements.
He first raped the girl when she was 10 years old. Subsequently, between 2021 and 2025, he continued to satisfy his own sexual desires by taking advantage of her vulnerability when they were home alone or at night.
The child remained silent for years out of fear and due to threats. According to the investigation, the stepfather intimidated her with violence and convinced her that no one would believe her.
Eventually, the girl mustered the courage to tell her older sister what had happened, and the sister immediately notified law enforcement.
The perpetrator was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. His actions are classified under Parts 4 and 6 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The accused is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment.
In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
