The National Police have uncovered 99 crimes against children in the digital space
In Ukraine, during the first 15 days of September, law enforcement agencies uncovered 99 criminal offenses related to the sexual exploitation of minors and child trafficking in the digital sphere. As part of a special operation, 34 individuals were notified that they were under suspicion, and 12 children were officially recognized as victims of human trafficking.
The operations took place from September 1 to 15 as part of a nationwide campaign to combat online violence against children.
Migration police officers carried out more than 100 investigative actions across Ukraine, including dozens of searches.
The results of the operation:
34 individuals were notified of suspicion of committing 99 crimes;
12 children were officially recognized as victims of human trafficking.
According to law enforcement officials, the perpetrators used social media and popular messaging apps to find, recruit, and establish contact with minors.
According to investigators, the children were subsequently exploited to produce sexually explicit photos and videos, which were then distributed and sold.
In the Odesa region, law enforcement officials, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Investigations Division, detained a woman and her live-in partner.
According to the investigation, they used the suspect’s 6-year-old son to produce pornographic material.
In the Lviv region, law enforcement officers put a stop to the illegal activities of a 50-year-old man.
According to investigators, he systematically committed sexual violence, engaged in lewd acts, and sexually exploited his own adopted daughter.
In the Chernivtsi, Kirovohrad, and other regions, law enforcement officials exposed a 38-year-old man and other suspects who are believed to have recruited girls online.
According to the investigation, minors were involved in creating content containing elements of child sexual abuse.
Preliminary investigations are ongoing in all criminal cases, and law enforcement officials are establishing all the circumstances of the crimes and identifying other possible participants in the illegal activities.
