The National Bank of Ukraine has issued a commemorative coin to mark the 100th anniversary of Symon Petliura
The National Bank of Ukraine has announced the issuance of a new commemorative coin dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the death of Symon Petliura. The coin honors one of the leaders of the Ukrainian national liberation movement of the early 20th century. The NBU also announced when the commemorative coin will go on sale.

The coin is dedicated to Symon Petliura
The National Bank noted that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Symon Petliura—a statesman, military and political figure, head of the Directory of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, and Chief Ataman of the UPR’s armed forces.
The NBU’s statement also quoted Petliura’s words about the Ukrainian people’s struggle for independence and statehood, emphasizing the symbolic significance of the new commemorative coin’s release.


What the new coin looks like
The commemorative coin has a face value of 2 hryvnias.
The obverse features a stylized portrait of Symon Petliura against a mirror-like background. On the left is an element of the insignia from his military tunic in the form of a branch.
The reverse features an artistic composition with the symbols of the Ukrainian People’s Republic. In the center is a trident—a depiction of the 1919-style sleeve insignia.
Around the edge is the inscription “100th Anniversary of Simon Petliura Remembrance Day,” as well as a wreath featuring elements of the UNR coat of arms.
The design was created by Alisa Ivanova, and the sculptor is Volodymyr Atamanchuk.
When will the coin be available for purchase
The commemorative coin will have a mintage of up to 50,000 pieces in souvenir packaging.
The NBU reported that the new coin will be available for purchase starting May 26 through the National Bank’s online numismatic store, as well as at participating banks. Banks will publish information about the start of sales on their own websites.
