The NMT in the Odesa region was delayed until 1 p.m. due to air raid alerts
The Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment commented on the situation in the Odesa region, where participants in the National Multidisciplinary Test spent nearly 13 hours at the testing center due to prolonged air raid alerts. According to the agency, graduates were offered the option to reschedule the exam for a later session, but they refused and decided to wait until the testing was over and take the NMT on the same day.
The head of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment explained that current regulations clearly outline the actions organizers must take in the event of prolonged threats. If the total duration of air raid alerts during the exam exceeds 2.5 hours, testing for that session is suspended, and applicants are given the right to take it during an additional session.
“All participants who remained to take the exam after this deadline are those who were offered the opportunity to participate in the additional session but declined,” Vakulenko emphasized.
According to Vakulenko, the students consciously decided to remain in the shelters and complete the exam on the same day so as not to postpone this important test to a later date.
Vakulenko noted that the person in charge of the testing site, in coordination with the regional center, has the right to forcibly halt the process. At the same time, if participants and their parents insistently request that the testing continue, the organizers accommodate them.
“In reality, this is a tremendous amount of work for the staff at the temporary testing centers, as they work for such a long time at the request of the participants. We would like to have a time limit, but we understand that this would severely restrict the rights of the applicants themselves,” noted the head of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment.
Tetyana Vakulenko specifically emphasized that exam centers are not required to provide food for participants. Before the exam, applicants are advised to bring water and a snack, which can be consumed during the scheduled 20-minute break.
In the case of the 13-hour wait in Odesa, this issue was resolved on the spot. Parents who supported their children’s decision to complete the test brought them water and food directly to the shelter.

An alternative bill to change the format of the National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT) has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada. The document proposes reducing the number of subjects from four to three. In this case, mathematics would be an elective subject.
The registration in the Verkhovna Rada of a bill proposing to remove mathematics from the list of mandatory subjects for the NMT starting in 2027 has sparked outrage in the educational and scientific communities.
