Farion, who is accused of murder, has gone on a hunger strike over the wall bars
Vyacheslav Zinchenko, who is accused of murdering Iryna Farion, announced on March 24, 2026, at the Shevchenkivskyi District Court in Lviv that he was beginning a hunger strike. The reason for the protest was the disappearance of a "wall bar," which the defendant’s supporters had delivered to the detention center for the inmates’ physical exercise back in 2025.
This was reported by Suspilne.
Zinchenko claims that the equipment was effectively stolen by a specific employee of the facility, despite assurances from the administration that it would be stored in a warehouse or installed in the proper place.
According to the defendant, his cellmate Mykhailo Stselnikov, who is accused of the murder of Andriy Parubiy, witnessed the promises made by the detention center official. Zinchenko emphasized that he has no general complaints against the facility’s management, but demands that the responsible employee return the set of exercise equipment or pay monetary compensation to the people who raised funds for it. The hunger strike was resumed after the detainee was informed the day before the court hearing that the property had disappeared and would not be returned.
The situation regarding the rights of detainees in the Lviv pretrial detention center is unfolding against the backdrop of intensified court proceedings in high-profile cases involving the murders of political and civic figures. While Zinchenko’s defense insists on an investigation into the property incident, law enforcement agencies continue to gather evidence in the main proceedings. At the same time, Ukraine is seeing an increase in the number of Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure, which is placing an additional burden on the prison system and law enforcement sector in rear cities.
In Lviv, the court extendedthe hearing in the case of Faryon’s murder.
Earlier, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Lviv extended the pretrial detention of Zinchenko, who is accused of murdering Iryna Farion, until March 9, 2026.
A new witness in the Farion case stated that it was not the defendant Zinchenko who was following her.
As a reminder, the suspect in the Faryon murder case claimed in court that his confession was made under duress.
Additionally, the pretrial detention of the defendant accused of murdering Farion was extended.
