The occupying authorities in Mariupol are distributing apartments to Ukrainians who have left the city

In the temporarily occupied city of Mariupol, the Russian administration has begun a large-scale distribution of apartments to local residents who left the city due to the war or were unable to prove their ownership rights because their documents were destroyed.

This was reported by the Mariupol City Council.

According to the city council, the occupiers have included approximately 2,000 apartments in the so-called “municipal housing fund,” specifically housing in undamaged high-rise buildings where the owners currently do not reside, apartments belonging to people who left the city due to the war, and housing belonging to those who lost their documents during the blockade of Mariupol.

Starting May 27, the occupying administration began transferring this housing to other residents who are on the waiting list for apartments.

People are being offered the choice to either agree to move in or decline within 30 days

At the same time, the new residents do not receive ownership rights and may only reside there temporarily.

Vadym Boychenko, head of the Mariupol City Military Administration, stated that this amounts to the de facto appropriation of Ukrainians’ housing.

According to the occupation administration, more than 5,000 families are on the housing waiting list in Mariupol.

Prior to this, the Russian occupation administration of the temporarily occupied Mariupol announced the start of the so-called “restoration” of the Ilyich Steel Plant.

In Mariupol, the occupiers have not paid the promised compensation for destroyed housing
