Fuel prices in Ukraine may rise by 5 hryvnias per liter

Fuel prices in Ukraine may rise by 5 hryvnias per liter

In the coming weeks, Ukrainian drivers may see new prices at gas stations. According to a forecast by Serhiy Kuyun, director of the “A-95” Consulting Group, fuel prices could rise by at least 5 hryvnias per liter.

The expert explains that new shipments of gasoline and diesel are already being purchased at significantly higher global prices. For now, gas stations are selling fuel from their old stockpiles, but those are gradually running out.

Ukrainian gas stations may adjust their fuel prices in the near future. According to Serhiy Kuyun, director of the “A-95” Consulting Group, gasoline and diesel could rise in price by at least 5 hryvnias per liter.

According to him, an unusual situation has developed on the market: wholesale prices are already higher than what drivers currently see on gas station price signs. This means that gas stations will not be able to sell fuel at current prices for much longer.

Why Prices Will Rise

Serhiy Kuyun explains that Ukrainian companies are currently purchasing new batches of gasoline and diesel fuel at higher global prices. That is why the current retail price no longer reflects the actual cost of the new fuel.

“This 5 hryvnia increase is already a done deal. It’s going to happen one way or another, because purchases are already being made at high prices that exceed current retail prices,” the expert noted. He also pointed out that just a year or two ago, the difference between wholesale and retail prices was 8–10 hryvnias per liter, which allowed retail chains to keep prices in check. Now, that buffer has practically disappeared.

When will prices change?

According to the expert’s forecast, drivers will see the new prices in about two to three weeks. That is how long it takes for new shipments of fuel, purchased at a higher price, to arrive in Ukraine and reach gas stations. Until then, most chains are still selling fuel from their old stockpiles.

The price increase will be gradual

Kuyun believes that a sharp price spike is not to be expected. According to him, global prices did not rise overnight, so Ukrainian gas stations will raise prices gradually. “We’re now seeing that global prices have been rising for two weeks, yet prices at the pumps haven’t gone up. All this time, we’ve been drawing on existing stocks. But those stocks aren’t unlimited—no one keeps them for more than two weeks. That supply has already been used up,” he explained.

Who Will Be the First to Raise Prices

According to the expert, budget-segment chains have already begun adjusting their prices. The reason is simple—they operate on minimal margins and cannot sell fuel below its cost price for long.

At the same time, large gas station chains have larger inventories and financial reserves, so they will be able to maintain current prices for longer. That is why they will likely raise the price of gasoline and diesel later than others.

What Drivers Can Expect

If global prices remain at current levels, a rise in fuel prices in Ukraine seems virtually inevitable. According to Serhiy Kuyun’s estimate, the minimum increase will be about 5 hryvnias per liter; however, the future situation will depend on prices on the global oil market, procurement costs, and the volume of new shipments to Ukraine. Serhiy Kuyun, a fuel expert and director of the “A-95” Consulting Group, made these remarks in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

Average fuel prices at Ukrainian gas stations as of July 17, 2026, remain high. The price of A-95 gasoline is approximately 75.84 UAH per liter, and diesel fuel is 76.81 UAH per liter. Gas station chains have also updated their prices for automotive gas.
