Five regions near the front lines were partially left without power following shelling by Russia

Five regions near the front lines were partially left without power following shelling by Russia

As a result of the latest Russian drone and artillery strikes, as well as a significant deterioration in weather conditions, widespread power outages were reported in eight regions of Ukraine on the morning of May 22.

This was officially reported by NJSC “Ukrenergo,” noting that emergency crews have already begun addressing the damage to restore power as quickly as possible.

According to the national energy company, damage to the power grids resulted from both combat operations and severe winds and heavy rains.

Regular enemy shelling of civilian infrastructure remains the main factor disrupting the stable operation of the power grid in the east and south of the country.

As of this morning, new damage to power lines and power outages have been reported in the Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.

“Wherever security conditions currently permit, emergency repair work has already begun,” representatives of the state-owned company assured.

In addition to military challenges, the situation in the power grid has been complicated by the passage of a powerful weather front.

Due to severe weather conditions (thunderstorms, heavy rains), more than 30 settlements in three regions—Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Zhytomyr—were completely or partially without power by morning.

Currently, numerous repair crews from local power distribution companies are actively working to restore overhead power lines damaged by the storm.

Despite significant local damage to the grids, the overall level of electricity consumption in the country remains stable. According to the company, electricity consumption is in line with seasonal trends.

Today, May 22, as of 9:30 a.m., it was at the same level as the previous day—Thursday. This allows the system to function without imposing additional emergency restrictions on residential consumers.
