The suspect in Berezovskaya's murder accused another person involved in the shooting
Vladislav Reut, who is suspected of murdering Anastasia Berezovskaya, stated during the court hearing that he did not fire the shots.
According to him, the four shots to the back of the victim’s head were allegedly fired by another suspect—Vitaliy Zhikovich. Reut also claims that Zhikovich took the woman’s personal belongings and ordered him to dig a hole.
“He took the gun from me and, standing behind her, fired the first shot into the back of her head. She fell. He fired the second shot after moving a little closer to her, aiming at her torso and chest. He fired the second shot. At that moment, I was standing two or three meters away from them,” Reut said.
He stated that Berezovskaya had already fallen after the first shot, after which Zhikovich removed the magazine from the pistol and took out two more rounds.
"So there were only four shots in total. He took out two more rounds, reloaded, cocked the gun, and fired two more shots. After that, he ordered me to go get a shovel and dig a hole. I went back to the car… to be honest, I thought he was going to shoot me in the back of the head too. I hurried over to the car… and saw that he wasn’t going to do anything to me. Then he bent down toward Berezovska, and as I later realized, he began searching her. I grabbed the shovel I always keep in my car—I wasn’t prepared for this. I’ve had it there since 2018. Following his order, I went to dig a hole,” Reut added.
According to him, Zhikovich took two cell phones, a watch, a lighter, and a wallet from the woman, and even took off the sneakers she was wearing.
“After that, he walked over and assessed the hole to see how much I’d managed to dig in that time. I almost threw up; I said, ‘I’m not doing this anymore.’ He took the shovel from me, then ordered me, ‘Help me carry her.’ A man who had killed an unarmed woman with four shots—what could I do? Especially since I didn’t have a weapon with me at the time. It was stashed in the BMW’s glove compartment on his side, because he said not to scare Anastasia. After that, we carried the body. He covered it with dirt, placed branches on top, and ordered us to leave the area,” Reut concluded.
Reut made this statement during a court hearing.
