Renowned Ukrainian sports commentator Oleksandr Tingayev has passed away
At the age of 47, the heart of Oleksandr Tingayev, a well-known Ukrainian sports commentator, TV host, and soldier in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stopped beating. The journalist died at a burn center after doctors fought for his life for several days.
The cause of death was an accident while fishing on June 4, during which the man accidentally caught a high-voltage power line with his fishing rod and was electrocuted, resulting in burns covering over 90% of his body.
Oleksandr Tynayev dedicated nearly 30 years to sports journalism, beginning his career in the Poltava region. Since 2004, he worked for the country’s leading television channels, notably providing commentary for matches during the 2008 European Football Championship. He was a versatile commentator on soccer, basketball, and hockey games, and also worked as an analyst and host on Champion Radio from the station’s very first day. With the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, the journalist stood up to defend Ukraine and fought in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the eastern front.

Oleg Tyagnibok, head of the All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda” and a former member of parliament, was wounded while on the front lines. The incident occurred when a Russian drone struck the vehicle in which he was traveling with his comrades.
Earlier, Kyiv Independent journalist Georgiy Ivanchenko and his French colleague Anthony Lallican were struck by a drone in the Donetsk region. Ivanchenko underwent surgery, while the Frenchman was killed.
