Once their contracts expire, military personnel will not return to their previous posts — Ministry of Defense

Service members who are set to be discharged upon the expiration of their contracts and will receive a deferment from mobilization will not retain their previous positions in the military.

This was announced by Mstislav Banik, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defense.

According to him, this is not a temporary leave of absence, but a full discharge from service. The deferment only guarantees that the person cannot be mobilized again during the specified period.

“This does not mean that the soldiers will return to their positions or to their units. During the deferment period, the situation may change significantly, as may the very nature of warfare,” Banik explained.

The Ministry of Defense notes that the issue of continued service for such citizens will arise after the deferment period ends.

As a reminder, new military service contracts with clearly defined terms came into effect in Ukraine on June 15. For military personnel in combat positions, the contract may be for 10 months; for reservists, from 6 to 14 months; and for other positions, up to 24 months.

As a reminder, the SBU detained a woman suspected of working for Russian intelligence services.

The SBU also uncovered new schemes to evade mobilization across Ukraine.
