Pistorius announced a strategic partnership between Ukraine and Germany in Kyiv
During his visit to Kyiv, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius emphasized that Ukraine and Germany remain strategic partners. According to him, the Bundeswehr is also studying the combat experience gained by Ukrainian troops during the war.
German Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius made this statement at a press conference in Kyiv following a meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
“Ukraine and Germany are strategic partners. And not only since this was formally established during Ukrainian-German intergovernmental consultations, but through practical operational actions. We were strategic partners even before that,” Pistorius said.
According to him, Berlin not only supports Ukraine in its defensive war against Russian aggression but is also building a long-term model of cooperation.
“On the one hand, we continue to support you in your defensive struggle, but on the other, we are increasingly focusing on a structured, long-term partnership, which is of decisive importance,” noted the German Defense Minister.
He also emphasized that Germany is studying Ukraine’s combat experience and technological solutions.
“We are cooperating in all areas. We are learning from one another, and here it is Germany and our armed forces within NATO that are learning a great deal from your experience, as well as from your successes and your failures on the battlefield,” the minister said.
Pistorius noted that such cooperation aims to strengthen the security of both countries and all of Europe.
“This serves one primary goal—to make both countries, and thus the entire continent, safer. That is why this is about much more than just solidarity, however important that may be,” he stated.
Separately, the head of Germany’s defense ministry emphasized that he is impressed by the Ukrainians’ will to resist and their creativity in defense solutions.
“I can only say that your will to resist, your resilience, is truly impressive—as is your ingenuity, technological capabilities, and the resilience of all of Ukraine, including the civilian population. All of this is truly impressive, especially after more than four years of intense defensive fighting… The successes that have become apparent in recent months confirm the correctness of your efforts and your creativity. This is clearly visible on the battlefield; it is evident from Russia’s behavior,” he noted.
