Pivnenko: Demobilization is possible no sooner than one year after the end of the war

Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine Oleksandr Pivnenko stated that the demobilization of military personnel is possible only after the end of hostilities and a subsequent stabilization period.

According to Pivnenko, after the active phase of the war ends, Ukraine will need approximately one year to stabilize the situation and transition to the peaceful functioning of the security sector.

“There will be a stabilization period lasting about a year—we will learn not to fight. Only then, a year after hostilities cease, will demobilization be possible. I think this is realistic,” the commander noted.

Pivnenko also expressed the view that recruitment is the most effective mechanism for staffing the military. At the same time, he noted that currently, no more than 30% of new recruits join the Defense Forces through recruitment mechanisms.

Separately, the commander emphasized the need for changes in the work of territorial recruitment and social support centers.

In addition, Pivnenko acknowledged that in certain sectors of the front, there are instances where servicemen remain in their positions for up to six months.

As a reminder, parents of large families in Ukraine are entitled to a deferment from mobilization, but this is not automatically guaranteed.

Meanwhile, the head of the National Police stated that law enforcement officers’ participation in mobilization activities is not their direct duty and has negative consequences. According to him, this practice affects public perception of the police.
