There is still no "good news" regarding the provision of €90 billion in aid to Ukraine — Kallas

Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, shared some grim news during her visit to Bucha.

She made these remarks while speaking with journalists in Bucha, according to Suspilne.

According to her, there are currently serious obstacles within the EU to the adoption of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, as well as to the allocation of the promised €90 billion loan to Ukraine.

The main delays are linked to the stance of certain member states, particularly Hungary and Slovakia. Budapest continues to block financial aid, citing its own interests regarding the supply of Russian energy resources.

Kallas openly acknowledged that there has been no positive progress on these issues so far.

“Yes, we face some obstacles regarding the 20th sanctions package, as well as regarding the loan disbursement. Work to overcome them is ongoing, but unfortunately, I cannot report any good news today,” she emphasized.

As a reminder, the EU may begin disbursing the €90 billion loan to Ukraine as early as the beginning of April.

Ukraine has sufficient budgetary resources to continue financing government spending and defense at least until early May.

As a reminder, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that Europe can use the €90 billion in financial aid for Ukraine without additional approval from Hungary, as this decision has already been supported by all countries, including Budapest.
