Police are identifying those involved in the beating of an ATO veteran in Zatoka over Russian music

A conflict broke out in the resort town of Zatoka in the Odesa region, resulting in the brutal beating of an ATO veteran. According to police, the man made a comment about Russian music, after which he was struck on the head with a metal cane.

The victim was hospitalized, and law enforcement has already opened a criminal investigation. An investigation into all the circumstances of the incident is currently underway.

 

In the village of Zatoka in the Odesa region, law enforcement is investigating an attack on an ATO veteran that occurred while he was on vacation. According to preliminary information, the conflict was triggered by a comment regarding Russian music.

As reported on July 10 by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region, a verbal altercation broke out between two men. During the altercation, one of them attacked the veteran and struck him several times on the head with a metal cane. As a result of the attack, the man sustained bodily injuries. He was taken to a hospital, where he is receiving the necessary medical care.

Investigators have opened a criminal case regarding this incident under Part 1 of Article 122 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—intentional bodily injury of moderate severity. Police confirmed that the victim is an ATO veteran. He participated in combat operations in eastern Ukraine in 2014 and was granted combatant status in 2015. At the same time, law enforcement officials clarified that the man is not currently serving in the military.

Investigators are currently establishing all the circumstances of the conflict, interviewing witnesses, and gathering evidence. Once the initial investigative steps are completed, a decision will be made regarding the further legal classification of the offense and the attacker’s liability. The circumstances of the incident continue to be investigated. The police are urging all eyewitnesses who may have relevant information to assist with the investigation.
