Law enforcement officials have arrested the mastermind behind the assassination attempt on a GUR official
Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, law enforcement agencies successfully thwarted a contract killing of a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate, who also serves as deputy head of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
As a result of a series of investigative and search operations, the organizer of the crime was exposed, which made it possible to completely thwart the implementation of the insidious plan by Russian special services.
The perpetrator has now been detained, and the final stage of the attempt on the Ukrainian official’s life has been neutralized.
According to the investigation, a 38-year-old Ukrainian citizen—a former military serviceman with actual combat experience and relevant intelligence skills—is involved in organizing the crime.
The man knowingly agreed to organize the murder on behalf of representatives of the Russian Federation, expecting a monetary reward of 100,000 U.S. dollars.
After receiving an initial advance payment of $10,000 from his handlers, he immediately began actively gathering information about the victim, closely studying his lifestyle and exact place of residence.
The suspect repeatedly traveled to the area where the GUR representative lived, conducted covert surveillance, and carefully studied the surrounding area and possible escape routes after committing the crime.
After gathering all the necessary information, he decided to use a modern FPV drone for the actual murder and began searching for an accomplice with the appropriate skills and experience in operating drones.
To ensure maximum secrecy, the participants in the criminal scheme used specific construction terminology in their communications.
They referred to the “murder” as a “construction project” or “job,” the client as the “foreman,” the perpetrator as the “laborer” or “builder,” and the murder weapon as the “tool” or “cement.”
Despite these measures to conceal their activities, on June 4, 2026, the suspect was detained in accordance with Article 615 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The suspect has been officially notified of suspicion of organizing the preparation for a premeditated murder committed for financial gain, carried out on commission, by a group of individuals acting in prior conspiracy.
