Magnetic Storm Forecast for April 21–22: What to Expect

The Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC NOAA) has released a new forecast for magnetic storms. Over the next two days, varying levels of geomagnetic activity are expected, as measured by the planetary K-index (ranging from 0 to 9).

This is according to data from the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC NOAA).

April 21

On Tuesday, a K-index of 4 (yellow level) is forecast. This corresponds to moderate geomagnetic activity, sometimes referred to as moderate magnetic storms. For most people, such fluctuations may go almost unnoticed, but weather-sensitive individuals may experience fatigue, headaches, or reduced concentration.

April 22

On Wednesday, activity is expected to decrease to a K-index of 2.7 (green level).
These are weak geomagnetic fluctuations that typically do not affect well-being or the operation of technical systems.

Magnetic storm forecasts are dynamic—data is updated every few hours, as solar activity can change rapidly.

Magnetic storms occur due to streams of charged particles following solar flares, which interact with Earth’s magnetic field. The strongest of these can affect people’s well-being and cause disruptions in satellite and communication systems.

Several periods dangerous for weather-sensitive people are expected in April 2026.

Magnetic storms can affect atmospheric pressure, causing some people to experience headaches, fatigue, and a general decline in well-being.
