An ATV rental operator was notified of the charges against him following the death of a minor near Lviv
On June 23, a 35-year-old entrepreneur who ran an ATV rental business was notified that he was a suspect in a case involving a fatal traffic accident near Lviv in which a minor was killed. Law enforcement officials are investigating all the circumstances of the tragedy.
Police, in conjunction with prosecutors, notified Artem Medvedenko, a 35-year-old native of Kryvyi Rih and current resident of Lviv, of the charges. Medvedenko is registered as a sole proprietor and was renting out defective ATVs. As a result of the traffic accident on April 16 near Lviv, a 17-year-old resident of Vynnyky died.
According to the Lviv Regional Police and Prosecutor’s Office, on that day, the girl’s mother rented the ATVs to go for a ride in a forest near the village of Vynnyky in the Davydivska community with her 17-year-old daughter. The instructor was a minor acquaintance of the rental company owner.
None of the three riders had a driver’s license for the required category or verified skills in operating such vehicles. As a result, while riding, the underage driver lost control and veered onto the shoulder, where the ATV overturned. The girl died at the scene from her injuries.
“According to the results of the forensic examination, it was established that the lighting systems on all the ATVs were not working, and the one used by the deceased’s mother had faulty brakes. Furthermore, none of them were registered with the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ service center. In other words, the rental company knowingly provided all-terrain vehicles for use that were prohibited from being driven,” the prosecutor’s office stated in its report.
The manager of the ATV rental company has been notified of suspicion of putting technically defective vehicles into operation or other violations related to their operation (Article 287 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Law enforcement officials are not disclosing any further details. According to ZAXID.NET, Artem Medvedenko has been charged. He registered as a sole proprietor less than two years ago. His primary business activity is freight trucking.
As a reminder, a major traffic accident involving two passenger cars occurred on the Kyiv–Pereyaslav highway near the village of Rohoziv in the Boryspil district. Four people were killed in the accident, and three others were injured.
The day before, a farewell ceremony was held at the St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery in Kyiv for two precinct officers from the Solomy— Lieutenant Denys Budchenko and Senior Lieutenant Dmytro Bondarchuk.
