The prosecutor's office argued in court against Shufrich's release from custody

The prosecutor's office argued in court against Shufrich's release from custody

The Office of the Prosecutor General strongly objected to the release from custody of People’s Deputy Nestor Shufrich, whom the court had placed under round-the-clock house arrest. Prosecutors insisted on the continued detention of the defendant, emphasizing the gravity of the charge of treason in the interests of the Russian Federation brought against him.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, which emphasized that the court’s ruling to change the preventive measure to house arrest with the wearing of an electronic ankle monitor is not subject to appeal.

During the court hearing, the prosecution argued that the risks in the case remain relevant, so prosecutors demanded that the defendant remain in pretrial detention. Despite these arguments and the prosecutors’ reminders of threats to national security, the judge ruled in favor of a less restrictive preventive measure. The Office of the Prosecutor General officially confirmed that it opposed such changes, as the previously identified risks remain real.

The court released Nestor Shufrich, a member of parliament suspected of treason, and placed him under round-the-clock house arrest. Instead of being held in custody, the defendant will remain under round-the-clock house arrest and must wear an electronic monitoring device.

Earlier, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv ruled to keep Nestor Shufrich, a member of parliament from the banned OPZZh party, in custody for another 60 days, through May 9.

Shufrich wastormented” in his detention cell by the “Yedyny” telethon.

As a reminder, Shufrich submitted a bill from prison that would allow courts to suspend presidential decrees on sanctions.
