The "Bila Tserkva–Sighete-Marmatiei" border crossing is being prepared for opening
Construction of the “Bila Tserkva–Sighete-Marmatiei” international border crossing in Zakarpattia Oblast is entering its final stage. Serhiy Derkach, Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development, announced that passenger vehicle processing is scheduled to begin even before the project is fully completed.
According to him, access roads, traffic lanes, and inspection areas have already been constructed at the site; the banks of the Tisa River have been reinforced; and electricity, water, telecommunications, and other utility lines have been installed. Infrastructure is also in place to support the operations of the State Border Guard Service and the State Customs Service of Ukraine.

Derkach noted that the temporary infrastructure provides the minimum necessary conditions for processing vehicles and conducting inspections. In the first phase, the checkpoint is planned to be open 24 hours a day for passenger cars with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 metric tons. The planned throughput capacity is up to 600 vehicles per day.
According to the deputy minister, “Bila Tserkva–Sighetu Marmatiei” is set to become the fifth new road border crossing point since the start of the full-scale war. In October 2023, the governments of Ukraine and Romania signed, among other things, an agreement on the construction of a road border bridge across the Tisa River. In November 2024, it was reported that there were plans to open this crossing for freight transport in 2025.
