Investigation into the case of MP Skorokhod has been completed — NABU
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) have completed a pre-trial investigation into the case of People’s Deputy Anna Skorokhod, who led a criminal group that organized the illegal imposition of sanctions by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the perpetrators demanded $250,000 from a businessman in exchange for adding his competitors to the sanctions lists.
The case materials are being prepared for submission to court, as law enforcement agencies have gathered a complete body of evidence of the illegal activities.
The criminal group developed a clear plan of action and a system of secrecy to conceal the receipt of illegal funds from the entrepreneur.
“They promised to transfer the money to members of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine as payment for the sanctions decision. To conceal the scheme and guarantee payment, the company’s representative was instructed to write a receipt for an alleged loan,” the NABU press service stated.
These actions were intended to protect the suspects from exposure in the event that the agreements fell through.
The participants in the scheme managed to receive only the first installment of the agreed-upon amount, after which their actual ability to influence government agencies proved to be a failure.
“After receiving $125,000, the ‘client’ was assured that this portion would be transferred to officials at the National Security and Defense Council. In reality, however, the money remained with the perpetrators, as they were unable to find anyone willing to commit illegal acts,” the agency noted.
The organizers simply embezzled the funds, as they had no real connections to the leadership of the National Security and Defense Council.
