What Is Known About Yuriy Pogribny, the New Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Logistics Forces
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed 41-year-old Yuriy Pogribny as commander of the Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the same time, Volodymyr Karpenko was relieved of this position.
Pogribny is a native of the Sumy region. In 2007, he graduated from the Bohdan Khmelnytsky Sumy Military Institute of Rocket Forces and Artillery.
The new commander began his military service in the 55th Separate Artillery Brigade. There, he rose through the ranks from platoon commander to deputy division commander.
When the Russian-Ukrainian war began in 2014, Pogribnyi was serving with the 55th Artillery Brigade. The unit took part in combat operations in eastern Ukraine, including the liberation of Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Lyman, and other settlements.
In 2020, Pogribnyi took command of the 532nd Separate Repair and Restoration Regiment, which was responsible for supporting troops in the Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia sectors.
In 2024, he completed operational-strategic training at the National Defense University of Ukraine. He then became the chief of armaments for the “East” Operational Command.
Prior to his appointment as commander, Pogribnyi had already served as acting head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Logistics Forces.
In his new position, he will be responsible for one of the key areas of support for the Ukrainian army—weapons, ammunition, military equipment, fuel, food, and equipment maintenance.

Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Mykola Shvydkyi as Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that he has no moral right to engage in any other matters except to return to his post.
