Chef Yaroslavsky prepared borscht for Prince Harry
During his visit to Kyiv, Britain’s Prince Harry attended a charity dinner in support of the Invictus Games, where Ukrainian dishes were prepared for him. The menu was created by renowned chef Volodymyr Yaroslavsky.
The chef wrote about this on Facebook.
According to Yaroslavsky, the invitation to cook dinner for such a distinguished guest was a big responsibility for him, as he wanted to “introduce this person to Ukraine” through his cooking.
“This is Prince Harry. And yesterday I cooked dinner for him. Honestly? I was very nervous. And it’s not even about the guest’s status, but the fact that through my dishes I’m introducing a person to Ukraine. And here, either they’ll get a taste of the country—or they won’t,” he wrote.
The chef noted that Prince Harry came to Ukraine at the invitation of the “Invictus Games” project, which supports veterans through adaptive sports and was founded by Harry himself in 2014.
According to Yaroslavsky, he chose a simple menu based on the guest’s preferences and family history. In particular, he prepared borscht, pickled wild garlic, garlic shoots, and other local ingredients.

“I know that his mother, Princess Diana, loved borscht very much. I read that she even added milk or yogurt to it. And the prince himself has loved simple food since childhood. So I decided not to get fancy, but to follow my heart and my roots,” the chef said.
He also added that the borscht for dinner was made with homemade kvass, and the menu included products from Ukrainian winemakers.
According to the chef, Prince Harry emphasized the importance of collaboration and support for the recovery of the military during the meeting.

“The path to recovery cannot be walked alone. That’s why I’m here—to work together with you,” he noted.
