A storm has hit western Ukraine: strong winds are tearing off roofs and leaving cities without power
Severe weather is battering western Ukraine—thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong winds have swept through the region, already causing significant damage and power outages.
This is reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.
The Volyn, Rivne, and Lviv regions have been hit hardest by the storm. Storm warnings and a yellow danger level have been issued in these regions due to thunderstorms and squalls.
In Rivne Oblast, 46 settlements were left without power, and in Lviv Oblast, 94. Some of them are completely without power.
The storm also caused damage. In the village of Khinochi in the Rivne region, the wind tore off the roof of a school; similar damage was reported in the village of Olesko in the Lviv region.
Wind gusts reached 15–20 m/s, which is considered a dangerous level. In Kyiv, the main state flag was even temporarily taken down due to the strong winds.
Forecasters warn that the bad weather will continue. As early as April 8–9, wet snow and nighttime frosts are expected in the western and northern regions.
According to forecasts, a true spring warm-up with temperatures up to +20 degrees will return around April 14–15.
