Sibiga called on the EU to establish a European anti-ballistic shield

During an online meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga called on European partners to strengthen anti-ballistic defenses and create a joint protective shield for all of Europe.

The foreign minister briefed his colleagues on the consequences of the overnight Russian attack and highlighted the damage to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. He called on the organization to properly assess the strike and send experts to the scene.

Sibiga also noted that, according to UN data, May was the deadliest month for the Ukrainian civilian population since the beginning of the year—at least 270 people were killed.

“Strategically, we need a European anti-ballistic shield. This is about Europe’s security and its strategic autonomy,” the minister emphasized.

Separately, the foreign minister stressed that Ukraine’s full membership in the European Union should be the best response to Russian aggression.

“Our goal is full membership. There is no alternative,” Sibiga stated.
