Sibiga called on partners to speed up the delivery of interceptor missiles
Following a nighttime Russian attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga called on partners to expedite their decision to provide Ukraine with interceptor missiles. He emphasized that such air defense systems help save civilian lives, and that support for Ukraine must not stop.
According to Sibiga, Russia attacked Kyiv and the surrounding region with more than two dozen ballistic missiles last night. At least 17 people were killed in the strikes, and more than 40 others were injured.
The foreign minister stated that Russia does not cease its attacks even during periods when the world expects diplomatic action. Therefore, he said, Ukraine’s partners must not pause their military support either. “Russian strikes take no breaks, so there can be no pause in Ukraine’s partners’ support or in the pressure on the aggressor. Every interceptor missile matters. These are life-saving tools, and I once again urge all partners to expedite the adoption of all relevant decisions,” Sibiga wrote on the social media platform X.
The minister emphasized that Ukraine needs additional means to defend against Russian missile attacks. First and foremost, this refers to interceptor missiles for air defense systems.
Sibiga called for tougher sanctions against Russia
In addition to strengthening air defense, the minister called on partners to limit Russia’s ability to produce ballistic missiles and other weapons capable of striking Ukraine. According to him, this requires further sanctions pressure on the Russian defense industry.
“In this regard, additional tough sanctions are critical and urgent,” Sibiga emphasized. He called for cutting off Russia’s access to the resources and technologies that allow it to continue producing weapons for attacks on Ukraine.
Sibiga responded to attempts to equate Ukraine with Russia
Separately, the foreign minister warned against what he called a false moral equivalence between Russia and Ukraine. Sibiga stressed that Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities cannot be justified by any actions on Ukraine’s part. “Russian attacks cannot be justified by anything, including any actions by Ukraine,” the minister stressed.
At the same time, he stated that Ukraine has the right to defend itself against Russian aggression and to strike military targets on Russian territory. “Conversely, Ukraine has every right to strike legitimate military targets in Russia in self-defense, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter,” Sibiga noted.
Thus, following yet another massive attack, Ukrainian diplomats are calling on their partners to simultaneously strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and increase pressure on Russia to limit its ability to produce and use ballistic weapons. Sibiga wrote about this on social media platform X.
As a result of the nighttime attack by Russian forces on the Kyiv region on August 5, 2026, 14 people were killed, and another 27 civilians were wounded. Rescue workers continue to deal with the aftermath of the strikes and extinguish fires in several districts of the region.
Over the past 24 hours, on August 4, Russian troops attacked the Zaporizhzhia region 1,052 times, striking 50 settlements in the region. Two people were injured as a result of shelling in Zaporizhzhia and the Zaporizhzhia district.
