The Death of Vladimir Kononnikov, Commander of the 154th Mechanized Brigade: What Is Known About Him
Colonel Volodymyr Kononnikov, commander of the 154th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Army’s Ground Forces, was killed in the Zaporizhzhia region. Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the circumstances of his death.
Volodymyr Kononnikov took command of the 154th Separate Mechanized Brigade after its formation in 2023. Under his command, the brigade carried out combat missions in the Kharkiv and, later, Zaporizhzhia sectors, particularly in the Huliaipole area.
Prior to this, the officer served in the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Among his comrades, he was known by the call sign “Conan.”
For his service, Kononnikov was twice awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky: 3rd class in 2018 and 2nd class in 2024.

On Sunday, June 28, Colonel Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Kononnikov, commander of the 154th Separate Mechanized Brigade, was found deceased. This was officially reported by the “South” Operational Command.
