A posthumous psychological evaluation will determine the condition of the Holosiivskyi shooter
A postmortem psychological and psychiatric evaluation will determine the actual mental state of the man who carried out the shooting in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated that experts will also investigate the circumstances surrounding the issuance by a private clinic of the medical certificate that allowed the killer to possess a firearm.
This was reported by UNIAN.
According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the criminal case is currently with the Main Investigation Department of the Security Service of Ukraine. The investigation must determine whether the medical documentation was obtained legally and whether the suspect’s actual condition corresponded to the doctors’ conclusions. Klymenko added that even without special examinations, the nature of the attacker’s actions and statements indicates that he was in a particular psychological state.
The tragedy in the Holosiivskyi district has sparked public outcry over the issue of gun control under martial law. Comprehensive measures are currently underway to establish all the details of the planning of the crime and possible negligence on the part of medical institutions. Law enforcement officials emphasize that a thorough investigation will help prevent similar incidents in the future and strengthen internal security amid constant threats from Russia.
The attack occurred on Saturday, April 18, when 58-year-old Dmytro Vasylchenkov opened fire on pedestrians on Demiivska Street, after which he took hostages at the “Velmart” supermarket. Seven people were killed in the attack, and about 15 others were injured to varying degrees.
