The court was unable to impose a pretrial restraint on Yermak: why
At its hearing on May 12, the High Anti-Corruption Court will not decide on a preventive measure for Andriy Yermak but will limit itself to hearing the prosecution’s arguments and reviewing some of the evidence. The defense team for the former head of the President’s Office has already filed a motion to postpone the hearing, citing the large volume of case materials.
This was reported by a UA.News correspondent from the courtroom.
The lawyer emphasized that the case regarding the legalization of 460 million hryvnias comprises approximately 4,000 pages, organized into 16 volumes, and the defense received the materials today at 11:00 a.m. Due to the volume of documentation, additional time is needed to thoroughly review all the facts on which the charges are based. The judge agreed, so the decision will be postponed until the next hearing. A preventive measure must be selected within 72 hours of the charges being announced, which occurred on the evening of May 11.
Currently, the prosecutor has begun speaking in the courtroom, presenting the prosecution’s position regarding the risks of the suspect absconding and influencing witnesses. The investigation insists on detention with a probable bail of 180 million hryvnias, given the scale of financial transactions in the “Dynasty” cottage community. The judge continues to review procedural issues and is setting a schedule for further hearings.
Former Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak links the charges brought against him to “public pressure on law enforcement agencies” to adopt specific procedural decisions regarding him.
