The court dismissed the treason case against NABU detective Viktor Gusarov

The Office of the Prosecutor General has completely dropped the charges of treason against Viktor Gusarov, a detective with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Prosecutors have already filed an official motion with the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv to dismiss this criminal case.

The defense succeeded in having the most serious charges previously brought against her client dropped. She also clarified the legal details of the court’s decision regarding the other charges.

“The proceedings have been completely closed regarding the charge of treason. Regarding the suspicion of violating Part 3 of Article 362—copying information from electronic systems—the Shevchenkivskyi District Court granted the prosecutor’s motion to release Gusarov from liability due to the expiration of the statute of limitations,” the lawyer said.

Earlier, in July, the Security Service of Ukraine announced the detention of this employee of the NABU Central Office. Law enforcement officials claimed that he worked in the most elite, closed-door “D-2” unit and collected classified data.

According to the investigation, the information about Ukrainian security officials was allegedly intended for the Russian FSB.

Following his arrest, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of the capital imposed a preventive measure on Viktor Gusarov in the form of detention without the right to bail. SBU investigators publicly emphasized that the detective was part of a large-scale enemy spy network.

According to the case file, this group included three other individuals who had been exposed earlier.

The detective’s attorney, Olena Storozhuk, reported this in a comment to Ukrinform.

Court keeps NABU employee suspected of treason in custody

Earlier, NABU rejected allegations that their employee, who was detained by the SBU, is a Russian agent.

It should be noted that NABU will cooperate in the investigation of the case involving its employee Viktor Gusarov, who is suspected of espionage. However, this cannot be a reason to dismantle the anti-corruption infrastructure.
