A group will stand trial for embezzling 20.6 million hryvnias from a fortification construction project
An indictment has been filed against six individuals suspected of embezzling public funds during the construction of fortifications in the Kharkiv region.
According to the investigation, in March 2024, the former deputy mayor of Kharkiv established a criminal organization that included company executives, two sole proprietors, and an accountant.
The investigation established that entities controlled by the suspects received 20 contracts for the construction of fortifications. The scheme involved inflating the cost of construction materials: products were purchased at market prices, after which their cost was artificially increased in the documentation to obtain larger budget payments.
Law enforcement officials report that during the investigation, property, bank accounts, corporate rights, and vehicles worth nearly 4 million hryvnias were seized. Additionally, 20.6 million hryvnias have already been reimbursed to the budget.
