A soldier who took bribes for arranging rear-area service will stand trial

In the Rivne region, a pre-trial investigation has been completed into a 58-year-old servicemember who promised, in exchange for $5,500, to influence the decision of the military medical commission. The suspect offered another servicemember a monetary reward to “work things out” with officials of the military medical commission so that he would be deemed fit for service only in rear or training units.

The investigation established that in January 2026, the suspect received the first installment of $500 and, through personal connections, facilitated the issuance of a certificate for service in the rear or at a training center. On February 3, law enforcement officers detained the man while he was receiving the remaining $5,000. The case materials regarding the receipt of an unlawful benefit for influencing the decisions of public officials have already been forwarded to the court.

At the time the criminal activity began in November 2025, the suspect was a cadet at one of the military units. After his arrest, he was taken into custody and placed in a temporary detention facility. The servicemember now faces charges under Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
