Three Russian agents were each sentenced to 15 years for orchestrating attacks on Ukraine
Three Russian agents who helped the occupiers prepare missile and drone attacks on Kyiv and the Odesa region were each sentenced to 15 years in prison. The court also ruled to confiscate their property.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, the convicted men gathered information on the locations of Ukrainian military facilities, air defense systems, and critical infrastructure, and then passed this data on to Russian intelligence agencies.
Based on evidence from the SBU, the court found three Russian agents guilty of working for Russian intelligence services and helping to prepare new strikes against Ukrainian territory. Two of the convicted individuals were operating in Kyiv. They are unemployed local residents whom law enforcement officials exposed in August 2024.
According to the investigation, they rented an apartment with a view of key urban infrastructure facilities and installed video cameras there that could be accessed remotely. Through these devices, Russian handlers were able to obtain information about the situation in the capital. In particular, the enemy attempted to use this data to locate Ukrainian air defense positions during future attacks on Kyiv.
In addition, the two agents planned to establish their own network of informants in the Poltava and Chernihiv regions. To this end, they intended to recruit people via the Telegram messaging app and enlist them to gather information for Russian intelligence agencies. Another convicted man worked as the head of a crewing company. He was detained in May 2025 in the Odesa region while conducting reconnaissance near a potential target for Russian strikes.
The investigation established that the man traveled throughout the region and attempted to identify the locations of Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile systems and radar stations that defend the Black Sea coast. He passed the coordinates he collected to his Russian handler. The occupiers planned to use this information to prepare new attacks on the Odesa region.
During searches, authorities found forged documents that he used as a cover during his reconnaissance trips. Among them were identification cards purporting to be those of a newspaper editor and an employee of the local water utility. The SBU noted that all three were acting on orders from Russian special services and were found guilty under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Specifically, the charges include high treason under martial law, sabotage, preparation of sabotage, and attempts to obstruct the work of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The court sentenced each of them to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. The Security Service emphasizes that efforts to identify Russian agents in Ukraine are ongoing, as the enemy continues to use a network of informants to prepare missile and drone attacks.
