Simeon lived in Syria during the 5th–6th centuries and devoted his life to prayer, fasting, and spiritual asceticism. He is called the Stylite because he spent over 37 years atop a pillar, spending his time in prayer and solitude.
Despite his seclusion, people from various places came to Simeon seeking spiritual guidance and support. He is honored as one of the most famous Christian ascetics of the early period.

Lord, our God, King of the ages, who holds the years and seasons in Your power and ordains all things in the world! Bless the beginning of the new year with Your grace. Grant us Your mercy, that we may spend it in peace and tranquility. Protect us from all evil, and grant us wisdom, that we may do good.
