As of August 21, prices for fruits and berries in Ukraine vary. Some seasonal berries are still quite expensive, while watermelons and cantaloupes can now be bought at significantly lower prices.

According to data from the “Stolichny” market in Kyiv, as of August 21, prices are as follows:

  • Apples — 16–40 UAH/kg
  • Bananas — 60–65 UAH/kg
  • Oranges — 50–130 UAH/kg
  • Lemons — 100–120 UAH/kg
  • Strawberries — 135–160 UAH/kg
  • Cherries — 100–130 UAH/kg
  • Blueberries — 190–300 UAH/kg
  • Grapes — 90–160 UAH/kg
  • Watermelons — 8–10 UAH/kg
  • Melons — 15–25 UAH/kg

Prices in this market have not changed significantly recently. Blueberries are currently the most expensive, costing up to 300 UAH per kilogram. Raspberries also remain pricey—about 270 UAH per kilogram.

Strawberries sell for about 135–160 UAH per kg, and cherries for 100–130 UAH. At the same time, seasonal fruits are now much more affordable. Plums can be found for about 20–50 UAH per kilogram, apricots for 60–95 UAH, and peaches for about 50 UAH per kilogram.

Blueberries have gotten cheaper, but they’re still not cheap

The price of blueberries has dropped noticeably in recent weeks. In early July, wholesale batches of the berries were selling for about 300–350 UAH per kg. Now the average price is about 240 UAH. In other words, blueberries have become nearly three times cheaper over the course of the season, but for shoppers, they still remain one of the most expensive berries.

Watermelons are currently among the cheapest

The melon and watermelon season is in full swing. On August 21, watermelons were selling for about 8–10 UAH per kg. Melons are more expensive—about 15–25 UAH per kg. At the same time, their price has risen by more than 11% and averages about 20 UAH. The first Ukrainian grapes are already on the market. They are selling for approximately 90–160 UAH per kg.

What will happen to prices next?

The price of bananas and oranges will continue to be influenced by the hryvnia-to-dollar exchange rate, as these fruits are largely dependent on imports. Apples may become more expensive as last year’s harvest stocks in storage are gradually dwindling. At the same time, the new harvest may be larger than last year’s. Therefore, the price situation may change as soon as the new season begins.

Ukrainian fruit growers expect wholesale prices for apples to decline between January and May 2027. The most common forecast is a drop of approximately 11–20%. Apricot prices have already nearly reached their seasonal low. Once the mass harvest is complete, their price may rise again.

However, no significant price drops are expected for raspberries and blueberries in the near future. Spring frosts and summer heat affected the harvest of these berries, so supply remains limited. The situation is different for watermelons. No noticeable price increase is forecast in the near future. On the contrary, large watermelons weighing more than 5 kg may become cheaper if farmers begin to sell off their stockpiles more actively.

Thus, at the end of August, shoppers have a fairly wide selection: they’ll have to pay more for berries, but watermelons, cantaloupes, and some seasonal fruits are now significantly more affordable. This is evidenced by data from the “Stolichny” market website in Kyiv.

Potato prices in Ukraine have been falling for the second week in a row. The main reason for this trend is the mass harvest in the main production regions and an increase in market supply.
