Tourism tax in Ukraine rose by 13%, with local communities receiving over ₴100 million

In the first four months of 2026, Ukraine’s local budgets received 112 million hryvnias in tourism tax, which is 13.1% more than during the same period last year.

This was reported by the press service of the State Tax Service of Ukraine.

The tax service notes that all revenues remain at the disposal of local communities. They independently determine how the funds will be used, specifically for:

  • infrastructure modernization
  • development of recreational areas
  • restoration of historical monuments
  • supporting tourist information centers

The largest amounts of the tourism tax were traditionally generated by regions with high tourist traffic:

  • Lviv Oblast and the city of Kyiv — 22.5 million UAH each
  • Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast — 18.8 million UAH
  • Zakarpattia Oblast — 10.3 million UAH

The Tax Service reminds that certain categories of citizens are exempt from paying the tourist tax. These include:

  • local residents
  • children under 18
  • people on business trips
  • people with disabilities and war veterans
  • Chernobyl accident liquidators
  • internally displaced persons
  • citizens undergoing treatment under medical vouchers

The State Tourism Service emphasizes that the tourism tax is an important source of revenue for local communities, which, in wartime conditions, helps maintain economic stability in the regions and develop the service sector.

In 2026, tourists are increasingly choosing to travel for experiences and new skills, rather than just for the destinations themselves.

As a reminder, the United Kingdom boasts a variety of natural landscapes, and one of the best ways to see them is by train.

The EU also aims to connect capitals with high-speed trains.
