Some pharmacies have only enough medicine to last 2–3 weeks due to Russian strikes on their warehouses

In some regions of Ukraine, supplies of certain medications are dwindling amid rising demand. In some pharmacies, current stock may last only a few weeks.

The Association of Pharmacy Industry Employees attributes the risk of supply disruptions to Russian strikes on pharmaceutical warehouses. Due to damage to infrastructure, there are already delays in the delivery of certain categories of medicines, and distributors are not always able to provide exact dates for the resumption of supplies.

Representatives of the pharmaceutical market are discussing the situation with the Ministry of Health and the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada. Among the proposed measures are simplifying the import of medicines, expanding pharmacies’ access to financial support and preferential loans, and utilizing parallel import mechanisms.

The APAU is also calling for the creation of more opportunities for pharmacies to operate in protected locations—specifically in the metro, underground crossings, and shelters.

At the same time, Ukrainians are asked not to panic and not to stockpile medications unless absolutely necessary. People who take medication regularly due to chronic conditions are advised to plan their purchases in advance and maintain a supply of medications for approximately 2–3 months, in accordance with their doctor’s prescriptions.
