The Cabinet of Ministers has appointed a new representative to Ukrhydroenergo
The Cabinet of Ministers has appointed Taras Melnychuk as the state representative on the supervisory board of “Ukrhydroenergo.” The government adopted the corresponding resolution on September 3. Meanwhile, the company is continuing the competitive selection process for four independent members of its supervisory board.
By Order No. 891-r dated September 3, 2026, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Taras Melnychuk as the state representative on the supervisory board of PJSC “Ukrhydroenergo.” The company announced this on September 9. Thus, Melnychuk will represent the state on the body responsible for overseeing and strategically managing the enterprise. At the same time, the formation of the supervisory board is not yet complete. A competitive selection process for candidates for the four positions of independent members is currently underway.
Why is a new selection process being held?
The government announced the competitive selection process back on May 13. At that time, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted Order No. 450-r regarding the four positions of independent members of the supervisory board. The need for a new selection process stems from the expiration of the terms of office for most of the current board members. Separately, the government had already appointed two state representatives in April. By Order No. 401-r dated April 24, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed them to serve starting May 5, 2026.
The supervisory board now includes Vitaliy Petruk, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine, and Eduard Denisov, director of the state-owned enterprise “Pivdennyi” Marine Oil Terminal. Taras Melnychuk has now joined the state representatives.
What Does Ukrhydroenergo Do?
“Ukrhydroenergo” is Ukraine’s largest hydropower company. The company operates large hydroelectric power plants located on the Ukrainian sections of the Dnipro and Dniester rivers. The total installed electrical capacity of the company’s hydroelectric power plants is 6,208.3 MW.
Hydroelectric power plants play an important role in Ukraine’s power grid. They not only generate electricity but can also quickly adjust generation levels depending on the system’s needs. Therefore, the work of the Ukrhydroenergo supervisory board is crucial for managing one of the country’s key energy companies. Once the competition is complete, the supervisory board is expected to gain four new independent members. Meanwhile, the government continues to update the composition of state representatives on this body. The company announced this on Wednesday.
Following the results of a tender, Ukrhydroenergo commissioned expert services from Zakarpattia Institute of Forensic Expertise and Accessibility Issues LLC regarding its contracts, for a total amount of 17.81 million hryvnias. The contractor was awarded the contract without competition, as no other bidders participated in the open tender.
