Authorities in the Kharkiv region have denied reports that Russian prisoners of war escaped from a penal colony
Reports have appeared online and in some media outlets about the alleged escape of Russian prisoners of war from a correctional facility in the Kharkiv region. The State Penitentiary Service has confirmed that no escapes have been recorded from any of its facilities.
“There have been no escapes of convicts, inmates, or prisoners of war from facilities under the State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine,” the service said in an official statement.
The State Penitentiary Service emphasized that the information about the alleged escape of prisoners of war “from a penal colony in the Kharkiv region” is false.Representatives of the service also appealed to the media and social media page owners, urging them not to spread unverified information. They noted that during wartime, reports of such incidents can cause public outcry and concern among citizens.
The State Penitentiary Service added that prison system employees continue to perform their duties under martial law and ensure law and order in correctional facilities, particularly in frontline areas. Thus, there is no official confirmation of the escape of Russian prisoners of war from a penal colony in the Kharkiv region—the State Penitentiary Service has explicitly refuted this information.
As a reminder, information had previously circulated online about the alleged escape of two prisoners of war from a prison in the Kharkiv region. According to these reports, after their escape, they allegedly killed a soldier and seized his weapon and vehicle. At the same time, the State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine denied reports of any escapes from its facilities.
