A stabbing occurred at a Kyiv hotel over a single remark
In the capital, law enforcement officers detained a man who carried out a stabbing spree on August 13 at a hotel in the city center. According to police, the 36-year-old assailant behaved aggressively, got into a confrontation with staff, and later attacked a restaurant patron, wounding him with a utility knife.
The incident occurred in the evening on the terrace of a restaurant located on the first floor of a hotel in the Pechersk district of the capital. Police determined that the 36-year-old suspect was harassing the establishment’s employees, behaving aggressively, and threatening the staff with physical violence.
“When one of the patrons spoke up, the assailant provoked a fight and stabbed the 41-year-old man several times in the head and shoulder with a utility knife. As a result of the attack, the victim sustained multiple facial injuries and a broken nose,” the statement said.
Law enforcement officers detained the assailant in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and seized the weapon used in the crime.
Investigators from the Pechersk Police Department, under the procedural supervision of the Pechersk District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the detainee that he is suspected of hooliganism—that is, a gross violation of public order committed using an object specifically adapted to inflict bodily harm (under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The penalty under this article provides for up to seven years of imprisonment.
Currently, the district court has imposed a preventive measure on the suspect in the form of pretrial detention with the right to post bail.
