The Joint Operations Command held a meeting with African journalists regarding Russian mercenaries

The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War met with media representatives from African countries. Journalists from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mauritania, Côte d'Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Senegal, and Cameroon participated in the event. During the meeting, they discussed the issue of foreign mercenaries fighting on Russia’s side in the war.

The Coordination Headquarters reported this on Facebook.

During the meeting, African media representatives were briefed on the number and origin of foreign mercenaries recruited into the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

Representatives of the Coordination Headquarters also answered a series of questions regarding the conditions of detention for captured mercenaries from African countries. They emphasized, in particular, that Ukraine adheres to the requirements of the Geneva Conventions and demands the same from the Russian side.

Journalists were able to speak online with prisoners from several African countries.

The Coordination Headquarters emphasized the importance of informing communities in African countries about the dangers and fraudulent activities of Russian recruiters.

The visit took place at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in cooperation with the European External Action Service. It was organized as part of the “EU-Ukraine Strategic Communications Capacity Building Initiative” project.

Citizens of 48 countries who fought for Russia are being held captive in Ukraine — Joint Operations Command.

Ukraine carried out another prisoner exchange, resulting in the return of 193 Ukrainian servicemen.

All 11 Ukrainian prisoners of war whom Russia handed over to Hungary in 2023 subsequently left the country. Most of them returned to Ukraine, while the rest moved to other countries.
