In Kryvyi Rih, supermarkets are using other goods to mask food shortages
In Kryvyi Rih, supermarkets have faced shortages of certain products due to Russian strikes on food processing plants. To make up for the shortages, stores are stocking their shelves with alternative products.
On September 3, Russian forces attacked the Coca-Cola plant in the Brovary district of Kyiv Oblast. Following the strike, the plant did not report any suspension of operations. Meanwhile, a few days after the attack, one of the ATB stores in Kryvyi Rih put an entire display of beverages on sale. Furthermore, the products were sold with orange price tags, which are used to mark items on sale.
However, space for an entire display of Coca-Cola products became available due to a shortage of grains, pasta, sugar, and flour.
In particular, there was indeed a shortage of these products in stores during that period due to constant attacks on food production facilities. For example, on September 6, the Russians targeted “Roma,” one of the largest flour producers in the Kharkiv region.
Currently, the shelves have been restocked with flour, grains, and pasta, while Coca-Cola beverages have been removed. Now, the Coca-Cola selection in the carbonated beverages section consists only of a small number of 0.5-liter or 0.33-liter bottles.
On September 10, the Russians struck the Reeva Ukraine food production facility in Bila Tserkva. Following the attack, the company announced a temporary suspension of production and shipments due to the enemy strike on the facility in the Kyiv region.
As a result, on the shelves of ATB in Kryvyi Rih, where Reeva products should be stocked, there are almost none left. Specifically, this applies to instant noodles. Among the remaining items are only a few varieties of Reeva mashed potatoes and chicken soup. At the same time, the empty shelves are filled with other products, such as mayonnaise.
However, the replacement of missing items is also evident among other products. Rows of bottled water are appearing on the candy displays, and on the counters near the registers—where candy might normally be found—there are peanuts or other salty snacks from a different section. It should be noted that there is plenty of other merchandise in the supermarket.
