The number of childhood injuries has risen sharply in Lviv: doctors are sounding the alarm

The “Okhmatdyt” Children’s Medical Center in Lviv reported a sharp increase in the number of children who sustained injuries while riding electric scooters, bicycles, and motorcycles.

In just three days, 60 children were admitted to the hospital with various injuries. Of these, 20 were hospitalized, and a 16-year-old teenager is in intensive care following a serious traffic accident.

The boy underwent a six-hour surgery. He was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, a fracture-dislocation of the femur, and comminuted fractures of the tibia. He faces at least two more surgeries and a long rehabilitation process ahead.

The other children received the necessary outpatient care. According to doctors, most of the victims were operating vehicles without the necessary skills or protective gear. Only about 20% of those injured were wearing helmets.

Electric scooters are a particular cause for concern among doctors. Compared to last year, the number of injuries related to them has increased by 50%.

Doctors are urging parents not to allow children to ride these vehicles without proper training and to always use protective gear.

In Ukraine, 115,000 citizens have already undergone free health screenings as part of a government program designed to detect risks of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other health issues in their early stages. The government emphasizes that the program serves as a preventive measure and enables people to take care of their health in a timely manner.
