The Ministry of Defense explained when trains do not stop during an alert

Train service is not always suspended during an air raid alert—the decision depends on the level of threat to passengers.

This was reported by Defense Minister Advisor Serhiy Beskrestnov.

According to him, Ukrzaliznytsia has access to military airspace control systems and constantly monitors the situation regarding enemy drones.

If there is a real threat to life, passengers are evacuated from the train. If the risk is not critical, train operations are adjusted without stopping—routes or schedules are changed.

Beskrestnov emphasized that in case of danger, passengers should move at least 100 meters away from the train, as drones can change their target and attack rolling stock.

He also noted that thanks to cooperation between the military and railway workers, hundreds of trains have already been brought out of danger, although passengers often do not notice this.

As a reminder, JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” is introducing four additional trains and extending one long-distance route to Yaremche due to increased passenger traffic.

On March 24, 2026, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Board of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia,” announced a change in the Russian Federation’s shelling tactics, which since late 2025 have involved systematically attacking rolling stock while it is in motion.
