Eleven taxi drivers were detained in Moldova for smuggling Ukrainians for $6,000–$10,000
In Moldova, law enforcement officials have detained 11 taxi drivers suspected of organizing the illegal transport of Ukrainians across the border.
This was reported by the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases.
According to the investigation, approximately 400 men may have entered Moldova through this scheme. The suspects received between $6,000 and $10,000 for their services.
The border was crossed at various points, including the left bank of the Dniester River. Afterward, the men were taken to Chisinau and Cahul, where they were helped to obtain documents and instructed on how to interact with border guards.
They were then transported to Romania, from where they entered EU countries.
As part of the investigation, approximately 30 searches were conducted, during which vehicles, equipment, weapons, ammunition, and cash were seized.
Eight suspects were arrested for 30 days, and three others for 20 days. The investigation is ongoing.
