Two chicks were born to the stork family of Odarka and Hrytsyk
Two chicks have hatched in the nest of Odarka and Hrytsyk, a pair of storks living in the Pyriatyn National Nature Park.
Accordingto the park, the chicks hatched on the 35th day after the female laid her first egg. The nature reserve noted that these are the first chicks of the season for this nesting pair.
"On May 18, 2026, at 4:44:07 p.m., one of the most anticipated events of May finally took place in the family of Hrytsyk and Odarka—their first stork chick was born. So now you can follow the most interesting events live, with the baby storks as the main characters," wrote bird researcher Iryna Sarazhynska.
Shortly after a brief pause, another chick hatched. Now the storks will be caring for two chicks at once.
Storks have begun returning to the Chernobylzone.
Earlier, scientists at the Chernobyl Reserve found another nest of Ukraine’s largest bird of prey—the white-tailed eagle. This confirms the stability and growth of the population of this rare species within the Exclusion Zone.
Extreme weather conditions prevail in the Chernobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve.
